While direct citizenship by investment is no longer an option, there are alternative routes to securing a Cypriot passport. This guide explores the most common path – Cyprus Citizenship by Naturalization. From residency requirements to essential documents, we delve into the details, ensuring you’re well-informed about obtaining Cyprus citizenship.

Ways to Obtain Cyprus Citizenship:

Even without the direct Cyprus citizenship by investment option, three ways remain open:

  1. Naturalization via Residence Permit: Accumulate 7 years of legal residence in Cyprus and explore options to reduce the term to 5 years.
  2. Marriage to a Cypriot: Non-citizens married to Cypriot citizens can apply for citizenship after three years, with a waiver possible after two years.
  3. By Birth Right: Children born to at least one Cypriot parent, under legal circumstances, automatically receive citizenship.

Cyprus Citizenship by Naturalization Process:

The primary focus of this guide is on option 1 – Cyprus Citizenship by Naturalization. To qualify, a foreigner must legally reside in Cyprus for at least 7 years, or explore options to reduce the term to 5 years. The individual must have been living in Cyprus legally and without interruption for 1 year before applying. Foreign investors and EU nationals can follow distinct routes to commence their residency in Cyprus, including obtaining a Cyprus Residence Permit, a Cyprus work permit, or acquiring the Yellow Slip

Application Requirements:

To apply for Cypriot citizenship, the following documents are essential:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Children’s birth certificates (original) not attained the age of 21 – for children registered as citizens of Cyprus  (if applicable)
  • Original certificate of clean criminal record
  • Original marriage or civil union certificate (if applicable)

  • Two recent passport-size photos
  • Receipt of payment of fees (€500)

Foreign documents must be apostilled unless exempt by bilateral agreements.

If foreign documents are not in English or Greek, they must undergo translation. The translation must be conducted by official translators approved by the Ministry of Interior.
