Cyprus Tax Updates 2026

Last updated on March 26, 2026

The Cyprus Tax Department has issued several important announcements affecting both companies and individuals. These developments relate to filing deadlines, procedural changes, and the ongoing tax reform.

Below is a summary of the three key updates you should be aware of.

1. Income Tax Return Filing Deadline (TD4 & TD1 – 2023 Tax Year)

The deadline for submitting:

  • Corporate Income Tax Return (TD4)
  • Individual Income Tax Return (TD1 – accounts required)
  • Summary Information Table of Controlled Transactions

is 31 March 2026.

However, it has been clarified that no penalties will be imposed provided that submissions are made by 30 April 2026.

👉 Important:
The statutory deadline remains unchanged (31 March 2026). Submissions after this date are technically late but will not incur penalties until 30 April 2026.

2. New Stamp Duty Procedure (Effective 1 April 2026)

As from 1 April 2026, a new stamp duty procedure is introduced.

Key changes:

  • The process is carried out through the Tax For All (TFA) platform
  • Documents must:
    • Be submitted electronically
    • Be reviewed by the Tax Department
    • Have the stamp duty paid
    • Be presented at District Tax Offices for stamping

Access is available to any person holding a Tax Identification Code (TIC) and an active TFA account.

Important clarification:

Although the Stamp Duty Laws have been abolished as from 1 January 2026, the new procedure applies mainly to:

👉 outstanding obligations relating to documents executed before 2026

This means that:

  • No new stamp duty obligations arise after 01/01/2026
  • However, older documents that were not stamped (or require stamping) must still be processed through the new TFA procedure

3. Payment of Defence Contribution & GHS (2026)

For the 2026 tax year, payments relating to:

  • Special Defence Contribution (SDC)
  • General Healthcare System (GHS) contributions
  • on interest, dividends, and deemed dividends

will be made via the Tax Portal, without submitting a return through TAXISnet.

👉 The relevant return will be submitted later through TFA, with further announcements expected.

This represents a transitional approach towards full digitalisation.

Conclusion

The 2026 developments confirm Cyprus’ transition towards a more digital and streamlined tax system, with a strong focus on:

  • The implementation of the Tax For All (TFA) platform
  • Simplification of procedures
  • Alignment with the broader tax reform framework effective from 1 January 2026

Taxpayers should pay particular attention to:

  • Filing deadlines (even where penalties are waived)
  • New procedural requirements
  • Transitional arrangements during the reform period
